Bill Would Fulfill State-Mandated Requirement to Ban Future Elected Officials From Participating in DROP

February 25, 2010–State Senator Larry Farnese today issued the following statement in support of City Council’s bill that would prohibit future elected officials from participating in DROP:

“I strongly urge City Council to pass this bill to prohibit future elected officials from participating in DROP.

Last summer the state legislature passed the law prohibiting future elected officials from entering DROP. As part of that law, the state legislature required the city to pass its own law banning future elected officials from DROP. Passing this bill now would fulfill the state legislature’s requirement.

In these tough economic times, eliminating DROP for elected officials would demonstrate a commitment to government reform and would go a long way toward fostering the public’s trust.”
