Harrisburg (June 8, 2011) – Senator Larry Farnese today affirmed his commitment to women’s rights by voting ‘No’ on the Mensch amendment to Senate Bill 732.

“My views on reproductive rights are well known,” said Senator Farnese.  “I support a woman’s right to choose.”

The Mensch amendment to Senate Bill 732 would require clinics that perform abortions after the ninth week of pregnancy to comply with ambulatory clinic requirements, such as expensive structural changes and an increase in staffing.

“This amendment is designed to hijack abortion clinics by forcing them to close,” said Senator Farnese.  “There is no doubt that fewer clinics would make access more difficult and put women’s lives at risk by encouraging underground clinics to fill the void.  This is another example of whittling away at a woman’s right to choose.”
