PHILADELPHIA, July 10, 2014 – State Sen. Larry Farnese (D-Phila.) today issued the following statement about Gov. Corbett’s morning press conference and the failure of the Republican leadership to work together to craft a sensible FY14-15 budget:

“It’s good to see that Gov. Corbett finally decided to do something about the budget that has been sitting on his desk for the past 10 days. Unfortunately, today’s performance did nothing to fix the budgetary mess that he and his party have created.

“Our current smoke-and-mirrors budget, and the even weaker leadership being displayed by the governor, is a direct product of the dysfunction, delays and squabbles that have been ongoing for months between the governor and the Republican leadership in the House and Senate.

“Pennsylvanian’s don’t have time for dysfunction, so Senate Democrats and I are going to continue to hold firm to what we all believe is right: properly funded schools, pension reform that is not made on the backs of working families and a budget that takes advantage of every available new and existing revenue stream.”

Sen. Larry Farnese was elected to the Senate in 2008 to represent Pennsylvania’s First Senatorial District which contains some of Philadelphia’s most unique and vibrant neighborhoods from Port Richmond on the Delaware River to Fairmount Park on the Schuylkill River and South Philadelphia, Center City, the Navy Yard, Philadelphia International Airport. Senator Farnese serves as the Democratic Chair of the Communications and Technology Committee.  He is also a member of the Appropriations Committee, Banking and Insurance Committee, and the Judiciary Committee.
