HARRISBURG, June 14, 2016 – Senator Larry Farnese (D-Philadelphia) today announced that more than $80,000 in Senior Community Center grant funds have been awarded to the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center.

“Our senior centers provide vital programs and services that allow our seniors to remain active and involved in the community,” Farnese said. “These grant funds are further evidence of our commitment to investing in our communities and the residents that keep Philadelphia vibrant and thriving.”

The Senior Community Grants are part of more than $2 million from the Pennsylvania Lottery being distributed to 43 Senior Community Centers across Pennsylvania.

As a 2015-16 award recipient, the Philadelphia Older Adult Center will receive $82,500 in grant funds. Grant funds are aimed at supporting local agencies focused on modernizing facilities, enhancing programs, building membership and providing for the overall needs of their members.

Sponsored by the Philadelphia Department of Parks & Recreation, the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center offers meals, activities, educational classes, counseling and transportation to area seniors.
