Sen. Farnese Announces Partnership with Philabundance to Feed Growing Number of Hungry Philadelphia Families
Philadelphia, November 18, 2009 - The office of Senator Larry Farnese has teamed with hunger relief organization, Philabundance, to help feed families who are struggling to put food on the table.
Philabundance is providing free emergency food boxes (Ebox) to families facing financial emergencies and Senator Farnese has opened the doors of his district office in South Philadelphia to serve as a pick-up location for Philabundance’s Ebox program. The first load of Eboxes filled with healthy, shelf-stable food arrived at the senator’s South Philadelphia district office, Wednesday, November 18.
“The declining economy and rising unemployment has not made it easy for many people throughout Pennsylvania to feed their families,” said Sen. Farnese. “So I am happy to be a part of Philabundance’s Ebox program and provide a supply of free, nutritious food to those struggling families in my district who need help the most.”
Each Ebox is about 30 pounds and contains enough food such as, breakfast cereals, shelf-stable milk, canned meat, fish, fruits and vegetables to feed a family of four for about three days.
Effective November 19, families may begin calling Philabundance’s Emergency Food HelpLine, 800-319-FOOD (3663) for a referral to pick up their Ebox. There’s also more information about the Philabundance Ebox program here: http://www.philabundance.org/programs/efb.asp.
