Farnese: Philabundance Food Still Available for Hungry

HARRISBURG, December 8, 2009 - - State Senator Larry Farnese (D-Phila.) today reminded hungry Philadelphia families that the emergency food boxes provided by Philabundance are still available at his South Philadelphia district office.

Farnese recently teamed up with Philabundance, a local hunger relief organization, to help feed families who are struggling to put food on the table.

“We were fortunate enough to pass out an extraordinary amount of food to gracious, needy families throughout Philadelphia prior to Thanksgiving,” Farnese said. “With the increasing unemployment rate throughout the city, many families need a little help putting food on the table and I am glad I was able to partner with Philabundance to lend a helping hand during the holidays.”

Philabundance is providing free emergency food boxes (Ebox) to families facing financial emergencies and Farnese’s district office in South Philadelphia is serving as a pick-up location for the program.

Each Ebox is about 30 pounds and contains enough food to feed a family of four for about three days.

Families can call Philabundance’s Emergency Food HelpLine at 1-800-319-FOOD for a referral to pick up their Ebox. For more information on the Ebox program, visit www.philabundance.org/programs/efb.asp.
