Farnese Applauds Appointment of Levy as Conservator
HARRISBURG, December 10, 2009 - - State Sen. Larry Farnese (D-Phila.) today applauded the appointment of Paul R. Levy as the conservator of the South Philadelphia nonprofit Citizens’ Alliance for Better Neighborhoods.
Levy, who heads Philadelphia’s Center City District, is to assess the remaining assets of Citizens’ Alliance and make recommendations to a judge about its future as a public charity.
“Center City District has been a top notch operation for almost 20 years,” Farnese said. “By putting control of Citizens’ Alliance in Mr. Levy’s hands I am certain we will see a continuation of vital services that our citizens have come to expect.”
In late April, the nonprofit stopped providing street sweeping, graffiti removal, and bulk trash pickup, among others. Levy’s job will be to audit the remaining assets of Citizens’ Alliance, and recommend to the court what should happen to them and whether the nonprofit should start providing community services again.
