Harrisburg – April 23, 2018 – Sen. Larry Farnese (D-Philadelphia) said the On Lok Center for Seniors in Chinatown has received grant funding to expand and improve their services.

“The services and programs provided through On Lok encourages seniors to be active, healthy, and social,” Farnese said. “These programs are essential to our senior community.”

On Lok’s services for seniors include providing hot meals, cultural programs, computer skills classes, fitness classes, volunteer programs, and opportunities to socialize. The center also hosts occasional health screenings and education programs.  On Lok was awarded $8,830 in funding through the Senior Community Center Grant program.

Farnese says the grant was awarded to help the On Lok Center for Seniors expand programs that continue to attract and benefit the aging population.

“We must ensure that seniors are able to access services that assist them in meeting their needs. Supporting funding, like what has been awarded to On Lok, is necessary to continue these services,” Farnese said.

41 community centers statewide were awarded grants through the Department of Aging’s 2017-2018 Senior Community Center Grant program. The grants are funded through the Pennsylvania Lottery.

There are currently 500 senior community centers across Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.
