Harrisburg – January 17, 2016 – Lauding the efforts of the Mazzoni Center to provide health care services for members of the LGBTQ community, State Senator Larry Farnese (D-Philadelphia) today announced a $1.5 million state investment in the Philadelphia based organization.

“I am so proud to stand with the wonderful staff from the Mazzoni Center and thank them for the work that they do to provide for the needs of our friends and neighbors in the LGBTQ community,” Farnese said.  “For over 35 years, the Mazzoni Center has remained focused on providing compassionate, quality healthcare and support services to those in need, particularly those with AIDS and HIV.”

“In these times of extreme divisiveness, it is more apparent now than ever how essential, how absolutely crucial it is to be a vocal ally and support not only policies, but also investments that will grow a network of safe, reliable and understanding havens where services can be obtained.”

Funds for the grant were approved through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) in late November. RACP is a commonwealth grant program administered by the Governor’s Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic and historical improvement projects.

Today’s award announcement represents the largest one-time gift in the history of the Mazzoni Center, and the largest amount ever awarded through the RACP program to an organization with an LGBTQ-focused mission.
