Senator Farnese Renews Efforts to Enact Anti-Discrimination LegislationEnding discrimination in Pennsylvania

Senate Bill 614 prohibits discrimination in housing and employment in Pennsylvania based on an individual’s sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. I introduced this bill to ensure that all of Pennsylvania’s citizens are protected and feel safe where they work and where they live.  SB 614 has cosponsored by all 22 members of the Senate Democratic Caucus.   I spoke at a moving press conference about this issue.

A video of my remarks on Senate Bill 614 can be found here.  A link to my press release can be found here.

Stopping Hate, Restoring Protections

In 2002, Pennsylvania extended hate crimes protections to citizens based on their ancestry, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, gender, and gender identity. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned this extension of protections on procedural grounds, but I have sponsored Senate Bill 96 to restore hate crimes protections to these groups. This legislation affirms Pennsylvania’s commitment to protecting all citizens from hate crimes and biases.  A link to my press release can be found here.

Southwark Elementary School Tour

On April 24, 2019, Numa St. Louis, a representative for US Rep. Dwight Evans, Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, State Representative Elizabeth Fiedler and I, took a tour of Southwark Elementary School. I was happy to discuss the importance of funding our schools with parents, teachers, and advocates. Our students and teachers deserve better funded facilities.
