Celebrating Philadelphia’s Lithuanian Community in Port Richmond
Pictured above left to right in red dress Lithuania’s Honorary Consul General to Pennsylvania Krista Bard, Mayor Jim Kenney, Senator Larry Farnese, Lithuanian Ambassador to the United States Rolandas Krisciunas, and other members of the Lithuanian American Community.
I recently took part in an event at the Lithuanian Music Hall in Port Richmond. The event celebrated the restoration of Lithuanian Independence and the 30th Anniversary of the historic “Baltic Way” demonstration.
Lithuania’s story of independence is America’s story of independence. I have enjoyed working with the community’s leaders and citizens.
I discussed the Lithuanian community’s strong ties and influence on Philadelphia. I also touched on Pennsylvania’s special connection to Lithuania. The Pennsylvania National Guard has a cooperative partnership program with the Lithuanian Military. Our guard trains with the Lithuanian military every year. This partnership has been in place for 26 years.
Other speakers at the event included Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and Lithuania’s Honorary Consul General to Pennsylvania Krista Bard.
