Sens. Farneses join Gov. Wolf in support of Restore Pennsylvania, aiming to help remediate contaminants in pennsylvania schoolsI joined Gov. Tom Wolf and Senator Vince Hughes recently at the 103-year-old John H. Taggart School in South Philadelphia to highlight the Philadelphia School District’s estimated $4.5 billion in deferred maintenance and construction needs and a new Wolf plan to address the problem.

The governor has proposed a Marcellus Shale extraction tax to fund a “Restore Pennsylvania” infrastructure program.

We were joined by Taggart Principal Nelson Reyes, Superintendent William Hite, and Dereck Baxter, father of a Taggart student.  All of us talked about the need to build better neighborhoods through better schools.

Business Funding & Opportunities Seminar – April 5, 2019

I will be hosting a Business Funding & Opportunities Seminar on Friday, April 5th from 8:30am-11am.

Senior Expo 2019

Senior Expo

I will be holding my senior expo on Thursday, April 18th, at 10 a.m. at the South Philadelphia High School. All senior citizens of the first senatorial district are invited to attend.

As always, we’ll have free health screenings, refreshments and a light lunch. Representatives will be available from local and state government agencies as well as public and private service providers to discuss their programs and services.

Property Tax/Rent Rebates Property Tax

Applications for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program are now available for eligible Pennsylvanians to begin claiming rebates on property taxes or rent paid in 2018. Do you know a child who will be 5 before September 1st? Philadelphia School District’s Kindergarten registration is now open. Children must be registered by May 31, 2019 for the upcoming school year.

LIHEAP Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Enrollment

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is currently accepting applications for the 2018-2019 season. If you or someone you may know needs help with their heating bill, you may qualify for LIHEAP. Applications are accepted until April 12, 2019. Philly Spring CleanupPhilly Spring Cleanup – Saturday, April 6, 2019

The 12th Annual Philly Spring Cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 6th from 9am-2pm. The cleanup will start with breakfast on the corner of 11th Street and Latona Street. Tools will be provided. To participate, you can register online at Phillycleanup.com. All volunteers are welcome, and registration is not required.

Philadelphia Fine Art Fair Philadelphia Fine Art Fair at the 23rd Street Armory will be held from April 4th through April 7th. This art showcase is Philadelphia’s first gallery-centered arts fair, featuring artworks from 35 galleries and by 300 artists.

Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia – April 6-14, 2019

The annual Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia will begin on April 6, 2019. This springtime tradition will feature a week of city-wide cultural celebrations, film screening, and more, and will conclude with the classic Sakura Sunday Celebration at the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden.
