First District Connection Special Edition: Papal Visit 2015
Our city, commonwealth and federal government have gone to great lengths to ensure Pope Francis’ safety – as well as yours. I am confident there will be no incidents and we all will experience a truly remarkable visit. No matter your religious affiliation, I think this peaceful soul has a message for just about everyone.
Because living in Philadelphia the next two days will be uniquely different, I want to take this time to share some Pope-related ideas.
One of Pope Francis’ top 10 secrets for happiness is “Be giving of yourself to others.” In that light, check out The Francis Fund, which is Project Home’s great effort to help people who are homeless, women who have been trafficked, and, among other noble causes, food pantries.
The fund has been established to honor the Pope’s visit to Philadelphia, and I think it is a good idea.
The other thought to help you navigate and embrace The Weekend of Pope Francis is the City of Philadelphia’s decision to use a dedicated web service to help get information out in the event of an emergency or a sudden change of plans.
The service, run by Nixle.com, is a text alert system that will deliver real-time info.
To register, text “papalvisit” to 888777 or visit the Nixle website: http://local.nixle.com/city-of-philadelphia/
I hope you will enjoy the weekend.
