Pennsylvania’s famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, saw his shadow last week, predicting six more weeks of winter. Keep warm and remember spring is just around the corner. I have several important updates for you:
- First, The Philadelphia School District has started kindergarten registration;
- Second, The deadline for open enrollment for healthcare is only a few days away;
- Third, my staff and I are available to help you with your property tax and rent rebates; and
- Presidents’ Day is Feb. 16th and Philadelphia has many wonderful and free events for families all weekend long.

Kindergarten Registration: Jan. 20 – May 29. Enroll Your Child Now For September 2015
Kindergarten registration for the 2015-2016 school year is being held now through May 29. For more information or to get information translated in additional languages, click here.
Open Enrollment for Health Insurance Deadline Feb. 15th
Open Enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace ends Feb. 15. Each health insurance type has its own enrollment period.
You won’t be able to get coverage outside of open enrollment without qualifying for a Special Enrollment Period. Go to www.healthcare.gov for more information.
Property Tax and Rent Rebates
If you need help with your property tax and/or rent rebate application, visit my district office. PA’s rebate program is designed to benefit Pennsylvanians who are 65 and older, widows and widowers who are 50 and older, and people with disabilities who are 18 and older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, and half of Social Security income is excluded.
The maximum standard rebate is $650 but supplemental rebates for qualifying homeowners can boost rebates to $975.
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is one of five programs supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery.

Presidents’ Day Weekend in Philadelphia 2015
On both February 14 and 15, embark on a free ranger-led gallery tour at the Independence Visitor Center that focuses on George Washington and the unknown ground that he walked on during his first presidency.
The National Constitution Center and TD Bank are celebrating Presidents’ Day with free museum admission all day long on Monday, February 16. Enjoy a variety of special themed programming in addition to opening weekend of Creating Camelot: The Kennedy Photography Of Jacques Lowe
