511 Travel To Go
PennDOT brings us a free 511PA App, available for Apple and Android users that is hands and eyes free! It covers 40,000 miles of state roads and some of New Jersey and West Virginia. The app announces traffic jams and other travel notifications so you can keep your eyes on the road.
Many of the state roads and bridges will be under construction because of the transportation funding bill passed last year. This app will help you plan your trips ahead of time. You can also get weather updates, traffic speeds and there is a link to other travel resources.
Child Safety Seats
The PA State Police is participating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign that runs May 19 – June 1. Troopers will offer safety seat checkups to teach parents about the proper way to install a child safety seat. In Philadelphia, the place to go is the state police barracks at 2201 Belmont Ave. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To read more about what our state police are planning for the “Click it or Ticket” campaign visit www.psp.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/psp/4451
Don’t worry if you miss this event because PennDOT has child safety seat fitting stations with trained technicians that will make sure the seat is properly installed. To find out more information on the fitting stations and all of the laws and recommendations designed to keep your child safe, visit www.justdrivepa.org/Traffic-Safety-Information-Center/Child-Passenger-Safety
Free Library of Philadelphia Summer Reading Games
Calling all kids, teenagers and adults to a reading challenge hosted by the Free Library of Philadelphia. From bingo cards, fun activities to special programs, the library has everything to keep your children reading this summer. Adults can enter to win prizes every time they read a book, listen to an audio tape or attend a program. Last year, everyone read a total of 30 million minutes!! Let’s try to beat that this year. To learn more, visit www.freelibrary.org/summerreading/ and like them on facebook - www.facebook.com/FLPSummerReading.
