Happy New Year! I hope you had an enjoyable holiday season and took advantage of the events – from family fun to the fireworks to shopping and the parades – that make Philadelphia the best place to celebrate the holidays and New Year. The Pennsylvania Senate convened this week, so there is no doubt that 2014 will be full of legislative and budgetary challenges, and we’ll begin our budget hearings in early February. So as we continue working, I’ll keep you informed.
In preparation for the new legislative session my team and I are working on several important issues:
- Reproductive Health Care Clinic Buffer Zones (Senate Bill 1208) – My bill is designed to not only ensure a woman’s unimpeded access to medical services but it also protects a protester’s First Amendment rights.
- Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPP) – Senate Bill 1095 protects community organizations from the filing of damaging and frivolous law suits.
- Ending Discrimination (Senate Bill 300) – Comprehensive legislation that bans discrimination statewide in employment, housing, credit and public accommodations that is based on sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.
- Healthy Eating/Healthy Lifestyles – In the coming weeks, my team and I will be rolling out a healthy eating and healthy lifestyles initiative that will not only be informational, but something that will help families and young people better understand the value of eating healthy and daily exercise.
If you would like more information on this legislation, or any other legislation I’m working on, visit www.legis.state.pa.us.
As always, if there is ever anything I can do to help you, please don’t hesitate to call my district office at 215-952-3121. You may also e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit 1802 S. Broad St., Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Have a safe, happy and successful 2014.
