A bipartisan group of legislators from the House and Senate made history last week by pledging to support House Bill and Senate Bill 300; legislation prohibiting discrimination in employment and housing because of a person’s sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. I’m co-sponsoring this bill with Sen. Pat Browne (R-Lehigh), Rep. Dan Frankel (D-Allegheny) and Rep. Chris Ross (R-Chester), in addition to my friend Rep. Brian Sims (D-Phila.) who is one of our state’s strongest LGBT champions.
Today in Pennsylvania, someone can still be denied a place to live or a career because of who they love, which is wrong. So I’m fighting to change that. I want to make sure that everyone, LGBT or non-LGBT, is protected and wants to live and work in our commonwealth. Right now, 21 states, including New York, New Jersey and
Maryland, have already passed similar legislation.
This is not the first time we have tried to do this, but momentum and public opinion – in addition to some pretty amazing legislators and advocates – have made a pledge to do all that they can to pass these bills, which is exciting.
In closing, I hope you have a good week, I will keep you informed about House Bill and Senate Bill 300. And, as always, thank you for your continued support. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need any further information.
All my best,
Sen. Larry Farnese
