I hope this issue of the First District Connection finds you well and that you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving Holiday. In addition to telling you about how you can:
- Get help paying your energy bills;
- Make the holidays easy with PhillyCarShare;
- Give some of Philadelphia’s history; and
- Take advantage of career help from the Free Library
I would like to tell you about a letter that I sent to the Chairman of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Since all six of the sites being considered for a casino are located in the First Senatorial District, I asked the Board to ensure a fair and thorough process so we can find the best site and operator for Philadelphia; unlike in 2006 when some people said that they were steamrolled by the process and we ended up revoking a license.
I’m happy that the second casino license will be staying in Philadelphia because it will bring new construction jobs, employment opportunities and revenue to the City and State, but we need to do this right. The entire selection process could take up to a year, so I will continue to keep you informed. Thank you for your support and please let me know if my staff or I can help in any way.
Have a good day,
Sen. Larry Farnese
