1st District Connection

Senator FarneseDear Constituent,

I hope you have a good Thanksgiving and have the opportunity to spend it with friends and family.  Remember, many of our neighbors don’t always know where their next meal will be coming from, so if you know of someone who needs help, please let me know.

I’ve partnered with Philabundance to provide Emergency Food Boxes (Eboxes) to families in need.  Eboxes are Philabundance’s way of helping people who need immediate, emergency access to food.  The boxes are available by calling 800-319-3663 for a referral.  Once you have a referral you can pick one up at my District Office which is located at 1802 South Broad St.

Here are some other things that I would like to share with you:

  • Expanding choice through the direct shipment of wine;

  • Keeping our Children Safe – Fast Tracking Sex Crimes Legislation;

  • Marcellus Shale Fees; and

  • The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Thank you for your continued support, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need any further information, and don’t forget to follow me on Facebook by searching for Senator Larry Farnese.

Yours,
Sen. Larry Farnese

Direct Wine Shipment Goes to Full Senate for a Vote

Last week I voted to expand consumer choice and support local businesses by allowing consumers to directly ship wine to their homes. Senate Bill 790, which was amended in committee to closely resemble my March 2011 legislation (Senate Bill 886), unanimously passed out of the Senate’s Law and Justice Committee. The bill will offer Pennsylvanians more choice in the wines they select and drink in their homes and area restaurants.

Fast Track My Sex Crimes Legislation in Light of Penn State Sex Crime Scandal

I went to the Pennsylvania Senate floor to call on the Chairman of the Pennsylvania Senate’s Finance Committee to fast track my legislation that would keep state and municipal workers who are convicted of a sex crime against a minor from collecting their public pension.  Senate Bill 1290 was introduced on October 18, 2011, and would amend the Public Employee Pension Forfeiture Act.  Click here to listen to my floor remarks.

The Republican’s Marcellus Shale fee plan simply falls short

The natural gas industry is revolutionizing energy usage and production in Pennsylvania for generations to come, but if done right, it could also help our state create jobs and strengthen our economy.   Unfortunately, the Republican leadership isn’t doing enough.   Click here to listen to my Senate floor speech about the issue.

Free Money From LIHEAP – Applications Are Now Available

LIHEAP_logoThe Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is now accepting applications.  The federal program has less funding this year, so if you think you will have trouble paying your energy bills make sure you submit your application right away.  Applicants must meet the new 2011-2012 eligibility requirements and have a household income of less than 150 percent of the federal poverty level.
For more information, contact the State’s LIHEAP hotline at 866-857-7095, Monday through Friday (individuals with hearing impairments should call the TDD number at 1-800-451-5886).
